Welcome

In many parts of India, “Amma” means mother. However, in our family in the US, we call our mother “Mom” and “Amma” is what we call our dear grandmother. We love our Amma and we love our Amma’s Indian cooking — she makes all kinds of Indian food from scratch and it seems like she is always cooking. We have noticed we cannot find anything like it in the US. We have visited some nice Indian restaurants, but none of them have food that tastes quite as fresh and healthy as Amma’s. Since she has been making our family food in the US for over 40 years, she has uniquely found a way to 1) get high-quality ingredients that we can never find in any of our local stores and 2) cook healthy, traditional Indian food that is incredibly tasty to our American palates. Yes, sometimes we even surprise ourselves when we say we want to eat Amma’s food instead of grabbing juicy Five Guys burgers. And we are always amazed how quickly Amma can throw these meals together.

We wanted to learn how to cook like Amma and share this joy with the world outside of our family. And we wanted to have more excuses to spend time with our dear Amma at the same time, so we started Cooking with Amma. In Amma’s ever-giving spirit, she asked that we make sure we give a portion of any proceeds to charity, so we plan to pick a deserving charity — likely in or near Amma’s home state of West Virginia — at the end of each year. We hope you enjoy getting to experience our lovely Amma’s warmth and love via her spice mixes, recipes, videos, and more — all of which can be found on this website.

Sincerely,

Amma’s Grandchildren
